Gentleman Mirrored" Mystery Mirror Journal Page Tutorial

"Gentleman Mirrored" Mystery Mirror Journal Page Tutorial

Today I'm sharing a super spooky, interactive craft inspired by Gentleman Mirrored by Claire Karloffe! This journal page features a blank "mirror" that reveals a mysterious gentleman when you overlay the vellum silhouette. Perfect for reading journals, Travelers Notebooks, or bookish planners!

✨ Materials Needed

Item Where to Get
Black cardstock (6x8" or journal size) Craft store or Amazon
White/cream cardstock Any paper craft supply
Vellum or transparency sheets Here
Fine-tip black + metallic silver pens Stationery aisle
Double-sided tape/photo corners Dollar store works!
Optional: Vintage ephemera, washi tape Your stash

📖 Step 1: Create the Mirror Base

Cut black cardstock to your journal page size (I used 6x8").

On white cardstock, draw a large oval or rectangular "mirror" frame in ornate Victorian style. Cut it out.

Inside the frame, write in elegant script:
"What you see is not always what is reflected..."

Mount the frame to black cardstock using photo corners so the center stays COMPLETELY BLANK—this is your magic mirror!

👤 Step 2: Design the Gentleman's Silhouette

On vellum/transparency:

  • Print or trace a mysterious gentleman silhouette (side profile in top hat + coat = perfection!)
  • Add details: cane, pocket watch, faint smoke trails swirling up
  • Edge with metallic silver pen and curve "Gentleman Mirrored" along the bottom
  • Trim vellum slightly smaller than your mirror frame

🎭 Step 3: Assemble the Magic

🥁 DRUMROLL 🥁

Attach vellum silhouette to the BACK of your mirror frame using tiny corner dots of removable adhesive.

OR leave loose so you (and viewers!) can lift/reposition during filming.

TEST THE OVERLAY: When placed over the blank mirror, your gentleman mysteriously appears! 👻

🌿 Step 4: Bookish Finishing Touches

Around your mirror frame, layer these details:

  • Torn book page corners peeking from behind
  • "Brother Thomas" tag (nod to that surprise spellbook!)
  • Faux wax seal sticker on the frame corner
  • Handwritten quote: "The intensity of the situation would have garnered that type connection..."
  • Distress edges or add metallic washi tape
