Discovering Charm and Chemistry: Why Lucy and the Duke of Secrets Is a Standout in Sofi Laporte’s Wishing Well Series

A Cosy Afternoon with Lucy and the Duke of Secrets

Sometimes a book just hits the spot—Lucy and the Duke of Secrets did exactly that for me. I picked it up looking for something light and found myself grinning the whole way through. It’s the kind of story you can knock out in an afternoon (with a cup of tea and a cat on your lap, if you’re lucky!) and feel genuinely happy you did. So what makes this one stand out? It’s all about the energy between Lucy and her Duke.

From their very first meeting, you just know they’re in for all sorts of mischief. The sparks are constant—witty banter, lingering glances, and those classic awkward moments that somehow feel so true to life (even if you’ve never met a secretive duke yourself!).

But let me be honest: the side characters nearly stole the spotlight. Their shock and over-the-top reactions gave me serious Bridgerton vibes. There’s always a busybody aunt or judgmental neighbor lurking, which made me laugh more than once. It kept things light even when the plot threw in its little twists and secrets.

More Than Just a One-Off: Meet The Wishing Well Series

Here’s the best part: if you love Lucy’s story, there’s more where that came from! The Wishing Well series by Sofi Laporte is packed with clever, lovable heroines and the kind of heroes you can’t help but root for.

Lucy and the Duke of Secrets—The one I just devoured and adored!

Arabella and the Reluctant Duke—Runaway lady, blacksmith hero, and a whole lot of secrets.

Birdie and the Beastly Duke—Gothic Scottish castle, a grumpy duke, and (you guessed it) a substitute bride.

Penelope and the Wicked Duke—A princess in disguise tangled up in Regency parties and masquerade.

A Mistletoe Promise—Perfect for when you need a holiday comfort read, too.You can totally start anywhere, but if you’re like me and love spotting little cameos, start with Lucy and go from there!

My Thoughts on Sofi Laporte’s Style

What I love most about Sofi Laporte’s writing is how her stories never get bogged down in historical details—she gives you just enough to set the scene but spends most of her time making you fall in love with the characters. The dialogue feels easy and real (with plenty of snark), and her pacing means you never hit a dull patch. Every book has this gentle blend of heart and humor that, honestly, just feels good to read.

If you’re after spicy romance, this won’t be for you. But if you love stories with a lot of feels, playful charm, and a guaranteed happy ending, her books are pure comfort food.

Why This Book Made My Day

It’s fun! Romance, drama, and family gossip all wrapped up in one snappy read. Lucy is hilarious. She’s smart, bold, and prone to getting herself into trouble. It’s uplifting. Despite the secrets and chaos, you finish the book feeling lighter. It’s part of a great series. There are more adventures (and more charming chaos) waiting in the Wishing Well world.

If you need a break from heavy drama or just want something to make you smile, give Lucy and the Duke of Secrets a go. I genuinely can’t wait to see which heroine Sofi Laporte dreams up next.
