What is the "Walk in Her Shoes" Reading Challenge?

The "Walk in Her Shoes" challenge is a year-long exploration of the incredible variety of female characters and professions on your bookshelf.

Instead of following traditional reading prompts, you’ll build a dedicated journal spread to track around 15 unique professions—from teachers to astronauts, and volcanologists to nuns. This challenge not only broadens your reading horizons but also adds a personalized, artistic touch to your journal.

How to Create Your Challenge Layout

  1. Choose Your Professions: Pick 15 roles you’d love to see strong female characters undertake. Jewel thieves, botanists, or magicians all bring fascinating variety!
  2. Design Your Spread: Use any medium—hand-drawing, favorite stickers, or papercrafting tools. I used Ideogram to create custom stickers of myself in each uniform, but magazine cutouts work wonderfully too.
  3. Organize and Track: Arrange the professions in neat rows. Under each image, leave a space to write the character’s name and the book’s title as you finish it.

Why You Should Try This in 2025

  • Diversity & Representation: Breaking stereotypes by discovering women in a rainbow of diverse roles.
  • Stash-Busting Fun: A perfect project for crafters to combine a love of reading with stickers, washi tape, and creative journaling.
  • Personal Growth: Hunting for "out-there" professions will send you down fascinating reading rabbit holes and expand your genre comfort zone.

Let's Walk Together!

I invite you to join me on this reading adventure in 2025! Let me know what professions you choose in the comments below, or tag me @mygrandmasteacups on social media so I can cheer you on.

To get you started, copy the prompt below and paste it into an AI tool like Ideogram. Just replace my description with your own!

Create a sticker sheet with a 40ish red curly haired woman with black glasses and her hair in a messy bun and have her dressed in a different job uniform in all 9 squares: firefighter, police, singer, baker, teacher, doctor, scientist, military, nun.
